You don’t get a lot of it but when you do, get ready for some space-faring slam poetry. One cool thing they added that I love is the ability to turn on the narration from the other versions of the game outside of America that had narration. I mean, her suit is that advanced but can’t offer me a GPS-style series of waypoints to get me from point A to point B? Stop being my dad and just ask for some damned directions Samus, there’s no harm in looking up help. I kept reflexively hopping into the map trying to add a waypoint I couldn’t add because that wasn’t a thing that games regularly had. Nintendo has finally revealed a remaster of the original Metroid Prime. GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers. ![]() I’ve been spoiled by games with a ton of accessibility features. 39.99 at GameStop 39.99 at Best Buy 45.99 at NewEgg. My only complaint with this remaster is a 100% “me problem”. But I don’t play video games to be active so I’m team dual-sticks. You can also switch to a variety of other control options like the motion controls from the Wii or a hybrid of both. The auto-aim is heavy but I’m not complaining as there are some really swift enemies in the game and dual sticks on the Joy-Cons is not something my hands like to do. Locking on and strafing is still satisfying. It’s still remarkably fun to play as well. It was announced during a Nintendo Direct on Febru1 and released digitally the same day, with a physical version released on Februin North America and on Main other regions. It’s a cool effect that constantly reminds you that you’re in Samus’s world. Metroid Prime Remastered is a remastered version of Metroid Prime that was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2023. It’s a feature that also jump scared me in the game Her Story, the first time I saw the protagonist’s face on the monitor reflection. This is because Classic’s free look mode uses a different analog stick sensitivity curve that isn’t very easy to finely position with the Joy-Cons’ small analog sticks.I was also very happy to be jump scared by the exact same effect that had done so in the original when you first off an explosion too close to you and you get Samus’s face reflected in the visor. – “Hybrid” controls are also really good, and I recommend them over “Classic” if you’re having a tough time with free camera aiming with the Joy-Cons. Please play the game with whatever controls suit you I just recommend trying the “Classic” controls if you’re looking for a little more insight into why this is the game that it is ☺️ I say this as someone who’s used every control scheme at this point (“Pointer” controls are probably still my favorite). (Heck, you might even find “Classic” a bit more ergonomic, again, given the game’s design.) Thus it highlights a lot of Prime’s playfulness and design sensibilities in ways that the newer control schemes simply do not. However: they created this control scheme for this game. It’s true, the single-stick movement scheme is crying out for the GameCube’s “octagonal gate” design, so that the transition between walking forward and turning is more tactile. I had this realization the last time I played the original Metroid Prime via Dolphin, and I’m having it again during my second Hard mode playthrough of Remastered: Give the “Classic” controls a try, at least on your second playthrough or something. Scrap all that nonsense and just put in a proper button assign function.Īll that said, I've adjusted okay and am having a blast. Why? Why fuck with my memory like that?Īnd I see 4 different button swap options. How does a game have 4 different jump buttons? It's nuts.Īlso, in this mode, the visor select buttons are different than in Classic mode. ![]() Neither of which jumps in morph ball mode - they both do nothing - while there are two other 'buttons' to jump (R and waggle). I'm playing in dual stick mode, and there are two jump buttons (L and B). The controls include some bizarre choices. The only letdown I see is that shots barely, barely illuminate the environment. I still consider the original game to be unbelievable eye candy, so this tremendous facelift is blowing my mind. The people who say "this is what I remember it looked like" baffle me I saw the upgrade in the very first frame of the trailer Tallon IV did not look that stunning from space. The second half is very easy there’s really only one trick you need to figure out. Just and astoundingly great graphical overhaul. IMHO, Metroid Prime is a fairly easy fight the first half is somewhat difficult since you’re still learning his patterns and attacks, but once you get those, he’s not too hard and fairly predictable. I finally got to start playing this today.
